INSTITUTE OF VOCATIONAL TRAINING

The Vocational Training Institute (IVT) was established in 2021.  Through strengthening and integrating various training activities, the IVT provides more comprehensive learning and development initiatives for supporting staff grade.  The IVT is a member institute of the Hospital Authority Academy.

Goal

The IVT is committed to fostering continuous learning culture.   We promote learning at work and instill the meaningful value of work partnership with the healthcare professionals. 

 

Target Participants

The IVT serves all supporting grades covering around 40,000 staff of 3 main streams: Patient Support;  Operations Support and Executive/Clerical Support.  The workforce offers essential support to the professional teams in providing medical, nursing care, allied health, hospital administration and other services.  To the ends of equipping staff with necessary skills as well as peace of mind and happiness, the IVT strives to optimize various learning and development initiatives.

 

People Development Strategy

Dovetailing with the direction of HA’s service provision, the IVT sets out two people development strategies for increasing the sense of belongings of staff.  They are translated into appropriate programmes and supported with personalized learning platform:

 

  • Increasing the training opportunities and varieties for supporting staff in general; and
  • Facilitating mobility and progression for targeted staff groups.

 

Education Programmes and Teaching Mode

The IVT offers Patient Care Assistant Programmes for different specialties and Supporting Service Series for Foremen to cope with the work challenges.  Our training courses are mainly classroom-based, supplemented with classroom practice, systematic clinical guidance and assessment.  The IVT also organizes hospital visits and online lectures to increase understanding of supporting staff on the hospital operation.

 

In terms of generic competencies training, the IVT has various soft skills classroom training covering personal communication, personal management, teamwork and supervisory skills.  An array of mobile learning courses is on offer as a substitute for those cannot attend training.  Along the learning trend, IVT produces and incorporates programmes with ward and office-based videos.  All these are aimed to enhance learning effectiveness and agility of learning-on-demand.

 

Career Development

Training is intricately linked with staff movement and advancement.  The IVT provides career development programmes for retaining talents.  Designated groups are matched with structured training curriculum and supported with relevant accreditation to foster their career development. 

 

Training Subsidy

The Institute provides training subsidy scheme to encourage self-development of staff at own time.  Supporting staff can apply part-time external courses in areas of clinical skills; technical know-how; industry knowledge; supervisory and task management; generic knowledge and technology application.

 

Our Teaching Team

Our teaching team is strong and professional.  Clinical training comprises experienced nurse trainers with some programmes conducted by doctor trainers.  Generic competencies training courses are taught by professional trainers from the Training & Development Team of the Head Office.  Moreover, the IVT collaborates with educational institutions and external training consultants to ensure updated knowledge is transferred.
